Playing piano is all about patterns

The layout of the alphabetic sequence of notes A B C D E F G on the piano, and the related black notes is

a pattern that is repeated all the way up and down the keyboard.

Patterns on the piano

  • All the C’s differ only in pitch and the same applies to other notes.
  • You can get comfortable with this as you play a sequence starting on G, for example, and play the same sequence starting with the note G higher up the piano.
  • You will have created the same melody (same pattern) but at a different pitch.
